Jim Rutherford
Ward 1
For those that I haven't had the opportunity to meet, my name is Jim Rutherford. I was elected to the Somerset City Council in November of 2006 and serve in Ward 1. I'm a lifelong resident of Somerset. I am married to Penny Rutherford and have two sons, Russ, a graduate student at Wake Forest University, and Brian, a student at Hopkins. The son of Ralph and Mae Rutherford, I also have six siblings. I'm a member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church, where I serve as Clerk, Superintendent and Assistant Sunday School teacher.
After graduating from Somerset High School, I started my career in public service in law enforcement, serving 4 years in the U.S. Army as a military policeman. I served the citizens of Somerset for over 17 years as an officer for the Somerset Police Department. I retired in December of 2004 as Senior Patrol Lieutenant. Since my retirement, I have also served in positions at the Kentucky Department of Criminal Justice Training and the Somerset District 8 Office of the Kentucky Transportation Department of Highways. I'm currently a part-time employee of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.
I am looking forward to my term in office. I have always felt humbled to be in service to my hometown and will continue to work hard for the citizens of the best city in Kentucky.
