SUMMARY:Juneteenth Festival
DESCRIPTION:Recognized in cities and states across the country\, Juneteenth — June 19 — is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. What started as a charette on this day in 2020 to promote unity and shine a light on the experiences of Somerset’s black community has been transformed into a festival featuring food\, music and art! \nThe City of Somerset and the Lake Cumberland Diversity Council are partnering to host this free community event — noon to 9 p.m. Saturday\, June 19 at the Pulaski County Judicial Center Plaza — as a celebration of the community’s black and multi-cultural heritage. \nThe art component of the festival includes live creation from several regional and statewide artists\, including Louisville’s Damon Thompson and Yolantha Pace\, Monticello’s Mitchell McGuire and Somerset’s Desmond Brittle and Bradley Shane Gilmore. These artists will create works under the theme\, “What does diversity mean to you?” Their work will be auctioned on Aug. 14 at the city’s #seemyset Art in the Park event at Rocky Hollow to benefit the #seemyset Art Fund. \nThe festival will also include food trucks and drink vendors from Somerset and across the state! Join us for a celebration of our community’s culture and heritage. \nFestival Map\n(click or tap to view) \n \n  \nMusic Schedule\n12:30 p.m.  — Seven \n2:30 p.m. — Yvngn \n4 p.m. — The Sum of Its Parts \n5:30 p.m. — Devine Carama \n7:15 p.m. — The Soul Revue Band \n  \nFood Vendors\nGet Ur Smoke On\nRoy’s Jamerican\nEddie’s Roasted Corn\nChick-Fil-A\nEnchanted Corn Husks\nMac Chaos\nSpotz Gelato\nCity Slickers\nTacos Tanacos\nSummit Meats\nA1 Ice Cream \n  \nDrink Vendors\n\nKentucky Mountain Moonshine\nHorse Soldier Bourbon\nMaiden City Brewing\nKoffee Pig\nJarfly Brewing Company\nWest Sixth Brewing \n  \nGeneral + Art Vendors\n\nAvon\nSomerset Community College\nHealth Care Systems\nSafy\nHeather’s House of Nails\nScentsy\nBlack Girl Magic\nBluegrass Designs\nDamon Paints\nRattle Can Dreams\nThe Corner Sto\nAnthony Roe Glass\nLake Cumberland District Health Department

SUMMARY:#seemyset Art Market
DESCRIPTION:In their first event of 2021\, the City of Somerset and the Somerset Tourist & Convention Commission are taking downtown out into Pulaski County with the #seemyset Art Market. \nThe event\, an open-air market from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday\, March 27 at Suits-Us Farm\, is an effort to build tourism at home by showcasing all downtown has to offer to local residents. \nThe #seemyset Art Market will feature a variety of vendors — including local and regional artists who will sell their work\, plus several downtown boutiques and eateries. Food trucks will be available on-site and local musicians will perform acoustic sets throughout the day. \nThe highlight will be an auction sponsored by Ford Brothers Auctioneers to benefit art initiatives within the city. Bourbon barrel lids painted by local artists during the city’s Moonlight Festival in October will be auctioned during the event\, with all money raised going to a new #seemyset Art Fund. That fund will be available to support future art projects within the city. \nThe Somerset Tourism and Healthy Somerset will also unveil a downtown Mural Walk during the market. Residents and visitors will be able to visit Somerset Tourism’s website\, seesomerset.com\, to view an interactive map directing them to each of the murals downtown sponsored by the city and learn more about the artists who created them — an initiative that not only promotes the city’s growing arts presence but encourages healthy behavior. \nThe market is presented by Applied Behavioral Advancements. \nConfirmed artists and vendors (list will be updated): \nArtists:\nAmanda Brooks\nJordan Justice\nJeremy Scrimager\nBrian Covert\nKristy Salley\nPresley Sutton\nSarah Roberts\nAnnsley Dishman\nDani Ford\nAnthony Roe \nMusic / Performance:\nEmily Crockett\nJonathan New\nLucy MacArthur\nTommy Minton \nArt Houses:\nThe Shine House\nFlashback Theater\nWatershed Arts Alliance\nLake Cumberland Artists Association\nSheltowee Artisans \nRetailers:\nThe Vintage Weekend\nSomerset Candle Co.\nThe Mole Hole\nBe You Boutique\nBazaar Universe \nPhotographers:\nShawn Edwards\nMeredith Frye \nEvent Businesses:\nSomerCity Roller Derby\nMaster Musicians Festival \nFood:\nSomerset Sweeterie\nGet Ur Smoke On
