EMS-Ambulance

CHIEF’S MESSAGE
Welcome to Somerset-Pulaski County Emergency Medical Service (SPCEMS).
SPCEMS was established on April 16, 1983 as a joint effort between Pulaski County and the City of Somerset in an effort to insure that our citizens and visitors would have access to dependable, high quality emergency medical service. We are located in the rolling hills of south central Kentucky and are the primary emergency medical responder for Pulaski County, serving a population of approximately 60,000. We are also the primary emergency medical responder for a lake-locked portion of Wayne County, serving a population of approximately 2000. Our funding is derived from various sources including our county occupational tax, grants and service fee collections.
We currently have 52 full-time employees and 40 part-time employees. All 92 of our staff members are dedicated to providing the best possible pre-hospital emergency medical care to the citizens within our certificate of need coverage area and within the Wayne County district we serve. Our policies are progressive and proactive. We staff six (6) emergency units and one (1) non-emergency unit per day. Our present annual call volume is approximately 12, 000. Every decision that is made by our command staff is based on finding a way to better serve the needs of our citizens in a fiscally responsible manner. We are also fortunate to have an exceptional Rescue Squad, one of the finest 911 centers in Kentucky, 18 Fire Departments which do first response on many of our medical calls and an aero medical service that can be on-scene in minutes within our coverage area. We have very good working relationships with all of these entities and can call upon them in order to effectively mitigate scenes of any size and level of complexity. We also have mutual aid agreements with our sister EMS services in connecting counties.
I encourage anyone interested in a career in EMS to visit our department. Our training department conducts two EMT classes per year and Paramedic Courses every two years. We are always looking for professional, motivated Paramedics and EMT’S who possess a strong desire to serve their community and who want to be a part of something bigger than themselves. I also extend an invitation to our citizens to come visit our service and get acquainted with our friendly staff.
We are always here for you.
