The Somerset City Council has approved a new ordinance changing residential trash container fees. Beginning Jan. 1, 2026, each household will be provided one (1) city-issued trash container as part of the standard monthly sanitation service fee. Additional containers can be requested at an additional fee.
Please note:
- Only City of Somerset-issued containers will be serviced. Any household waste not placed in a city-issued container will not be collected.
- Residents may request an additional city-issued container for a $60 deposit and a $5 monthly fee per container.
- The collection of bulk items — such as washers, dryers, couches and similar large items — will be limited to the designated spring and fall clean-up weeks.
- If you currently have extra city-issued containers and do not wish to be charged the additional fee, please contact the sanitation department to arrange their removal.
- If you rent a property, please ensure that your tenants understand that the trash container must remain at the property when they move. Failure to do so will result in the property owner being responsible for the replacement cost.
