Annual MLK Unity Walk

The City of Somerset will celebrate unity, love, service, and the life and accomplishments of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 11 a.m. Monday,  Jan. 16 with its annual unity walk. The theme of the program is Lift Every Voice and Sing, a song considered by many as the Black National Anthem.

The day’s schedule includes:

• 11 a.m.: Meet at Judicial Center Plaza
• The anthem will be played followed by the unity walk to the Citizens National Bank Pavilion.
• Welcome by Rikiyah Pryor, Citizens Bank marketing and public relations director
• History of Lift Every Voice and Sing and the purpose of the event by Healthy Somerset Director Kathy Townsend
• Message by Jeremy Taylor, speaker, coach and owner of Taylor Leadership Development
• Presentation of MLK Acts of Service Award from Somerset Mayor Alan Keck
• Closing remarks

Refreshments will be provided. Somerset 106 will provide an on-air playlist from 11 a.m. to noon of music from the Civil Rights Movement time period.
