Safety Officers
Safety officers are non-sworn personnel whose primary focus is traffic control and funeral escorts. These officers also take some of the workload off sworn officers by aiding in traffic control around collision scenes and provide parking enforcement. The safety officers are certified in traffic control/direction and unlocking car doors for lockouts.
School Resource Officers
The School Resource Officers (SROs) are responsible for maintaining a positive relationship with students in our local schools. SROs provide classroom presentations for various age-appropriate programs, including training for teachers and other staff members. The SRO is a sworn police officer assigned to specific schools in the Somerset Independent School District with the intent to create a safe environment for students and faculty alike. If parents have questions, concerns or tips concerning criminal activity related to their child or the school district, they can contact the SRO assigned to your child’s school by email.
Police Chaplain
The Somerset Police Department Chaplain provides guidance, counseling, and overall spiritual support for Somerset police officers and their families. An ordained minister, the chaplain can also provide similar services to aid victims of crime or coping with serious events of injury, or death.
